The Cultural/Heritage Committee spearheads a Cemetery Tour w/ re-enactors every October.
Located two blocks West of the Lighthouse (Porter Avenue) extending from Beach Blvd. to Irish Hill Drive. Historical figures such as George E. Ohr, the Mad Potter of Biloxi and Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, Charles A. Bessey are buried in this cemetery.

Established in 1986 to preserve and interpret the maritime history and heritage of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Museum was completed destroyed in Hurricane Katrina; plans are to rebuild across from the Schooner Pier Complex where a gift shop is located and the historic schooners sail from. Located on Hwy 90 - near Casino Row.

Built in 1874, the original red-brick church was attended by Jefferson Davis. The bell tower, built in 1891, houses the Window of Hope which remebers the survivors of Hurricane Camille. The bent flagpole is in honor of those who died and the destruction caused by Hurricane Camille. Be sure to read the Biloxi Indian legend explaining the origination of the Ring in the Oak. The church was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.

During the Civil War, the island's fort became a prison for Confederate P.O.W.'s, and a base for the U.S. Second Regiment (Louisiana Native Guards), one of the first African American combat units to fight in the Civil War. The National Park Service provides tours of Fort Massachusetts during tour boat season. Access to the island and fort provided by ferryboat operated by Ship Island Excursions from Gulfport.

Nicknamed the Fisherman's Church, it is adorned by a sea shell, scalloped-shaped dome and 4,000 square feet of stained glass windows reflecting figures of the Twelve Apostles, who became fishers of men. Please call for hours to visit this beautiful example of architecture, history, and faith. Sustained major damage in Hurrican Katrina. |
